On June 26–27, 2026, D4D organized YouthHack 4 Action at Hotel Trofta in Istog, bringing together 16 young people from different cities, academic fields, and professional backgrounds across Kosovo. Over two days, participants combined creativity, technology, and civic engagement to develop ideas and prototypes addressing community needs.
The activity created opportunities for collaboration among young people with different skills and experiences, including those without a programming background. Working in teams, participants practiced identifying problems, developing solutions, and presenting their ideas to professionals.
The first day focused on introductions, exchanging experiences, and discussing the importance of civic participation. Presentations of local examples, including the Kosovo Police’s “Lajmëro Policinë” reporting application and D4D’s Verifiko.info platform, illustrated how digital tools can support transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement.
Participants then formed three multidisciplinary teams and began identifying challenges and developing initial ideas. On the second day, a Hackathon Sprint gave teams time to build and refine their prototypes with guidance from the trainer and support from D4D staff.
The three proposed solutions included an air-quality monitoring and filtration concept for selected bus stations, a fundraising platform for individuals and families facing expensive healthcare needs, and an application for reporting waste and pollution in public green spaces.
The activity concluded with teams presenting their prototypes to an evaluation jury. The healthcare fundraising platform was selected as the winning idea. Through this process, participants practiced collaboration, creative thinking, and presenting responses to concrete challenges.
YouthHack 4 Action was implemented through “Innovate4Impact: Equipping Youth with Skills & Innovation for Market Access,” within the BOOST Balkans programme, with support from ALDA Balkans and AFD – Agence Française de Développement.
