Raising Voices: A Vision for Empowering Women in Rural Areas

17.07.2025

As part of the project “Decision making through dialogue: Improving the life in rural settlements through advocacy by groups of interest” project, supported by the “SMART Balkans–Civil Society for Shared Society in the Western Balkans” regional project, a group of committed women activists from Prizren, Peja, and Mitrovica have launched a powerful advocacy journey aimed at improving the lives of women in rural communities.

Over the past two months, the group has held three coordination meetings, laying the groundwork for data-driven advocacy focused on enhancing women’s access to employment, especially by addressing the lack of public transport and kindergartens in villages.

During this period, group members have:

  • Built consensus on the key challenges faced by rural women;
  • Conducted research and field visits to collect on-the-ground data;
  • Begun drafting fact-sheets based on real evidence reflecting the current situation.

These efforts aim not only to influence a concrete public policy decision, but also to build a sustainable model for constructive dialogue between civil society and public institutions.

This isn’t just about improving mobility, it’s about creating better lives, stronger communities, and smarter policymaking.

Stay tuned — we’ll soon be sharing key findings and concrete policy proposals shaped by the voices of rural women.

“Decision making through dialogue: Improving the life in rural settlements through advocacy by groups of interest” is implemented with the support of “SMART Balkans–Civil Society for Shared Society in the Western Balkans” regional project implemented by Centar za promociju civilnog društva (CPCD), Center for Research and Policy Making (CRPM) and Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) and financially supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (NMFA).
