This year, the annual “Father of the Year” award ceremony was held as part of the project, where three fathers were honored. The stories of the selected fathers, as well as many of those nominated for this award, highlight the need for policies in Kosovo that enable parents to achieve family equality.
The purpose of this award is to send the message that parents should cooperate and share responsibilities and time for childcare, and to encourage a review of the government’s proposed parental leave model. This would allow for a more balanced distribution of leave between both parents and provide paid parental leave to encourage fathers to participate more actively in childcare.
It is a positive development that nominations and awards for the annual “Father of the Year” are now extended beyond the seven regions of Kosovo, including smaller municipalities. This shift demonstrates a positive change towards accepting equal responsibilities in both work and family life, beyond shared parental leave.
This year, the winners of the 2024 “Father of the Year” award are:
– Arbnor Morina
– Hajdin Islami
– Adrian Davies
The event is part of the Coalition for Social Justice and Socio-Economic Rights and the Olof Palme International Center – Kosovo Program
