This week, D4D hosted a focus group with representatives of civil society to discuss the inclusion of critical thinking and the fight against disinformation in high schools in Kosovo.
During the discussion, participants noted that while some teachers already touch on media literacy topics through individual initiatives or elective projects, there is still a lack of a structured approach and full institutional support. Participants shared their experiences, ranging from fact-checking initiatives to training teachers on media literacy.
The organizations also discussed the main challenges teachers face such as lack of time, training, and teaching materials as well as the opportunities to integrate critical thinking into classroom lessons.
This meeting is part of D4D’s ongoing efforts to develop practical materials that help teachers turn media literacy modules into 45-minute lessons suitable for students in grades 10–12. From this series of focus groups and discussions, a policy paper will be developed to advocate with decision-makers for the inclusion of critical thinking and media education in the school curriculum as an essential skill for future generations.
This activity is carried out with the support of the “Support to civil society in Kosovo” project, funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and implemented by LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency.
