Today, the Democracy for Development Institute held a discussion on the publishing conference of the online media monitoring reports during the period of January-March: The monitoring of the information disorder on the online and social media: Misleading narratives and sensationalized headlines.

To discuss the main findings during the months of January-March, invited to the panel were: Fitore Rexhepi, Journalist and Moderator at RTK and Arsim Lanin, Editor and Moderator at T7. Representatives from civil society, media, and the ombudsman were also invited.

In this discussion, it was highlighted the importance of filtering the news before publication, so that there is no sensational language, and that sensational headlines are justified with the idea of gaining clickbait and financial benefits. It was also emphasized that the cause of misinformation and sensational writing has also been contributing on the decrease of trust in the media. As a main recommendation, the need of including media literacy in schools was mentioned as necessary for young people to be informed about the phenomena of online disinformation, in order to develop a well-informed media society.

This activity was organized by the Democracy for Development Institute (D4D) within the project “Coverage and Understandability of the Information Disorder in Kosovo”, which is supported by NDI and USAID in Kosovo.
