Roundtable in Peja, Gjakova and Mitrovica: Electoral Justice in the Elections of June 11th

Democracy for Development Institute (D4D) in collaboration with the coalition Democracy in Action (DNV) during this week are organizing discussion meetings with the topic “Electoral Justice in the June 11th elections” in seven (7) municipalities.

These meetings with the relevant representatives have already been held in Peja, Gjakova and Mitrovica, and the rest of the meetings will be held in the order mentioned below. In these meetings, representatives from Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC), Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC), Kosovo Police (KP), Central Election Commission (CEC), and Electoral Complains and Appeals Commission (ECAP) discussed about standard procedures of actions to maintain a correct electoral process and collaboration between relevant institutions with the purpose of protecting the vote.

National coordinator for elections from the State Prosecutor Council, Mrs. Laura Pula, while noting the importance of vote protection also discussed about the punishment that individuals will receive if they attempt or take photos of their vote. Deputy Chief of Police for Operative Actions, Mr. Naim Rexha, outlined that the police is keeping an eye on all the public meetings organized by the political parties – events that gradually are increasing while the violation of rules is decreasing. Representatives from ECAP, Mr. Mul Desku, while stressing the importance of the protection of votes, underlined the importance of respecting the deadlines for appeals in this institution as well as gathering of all the necessary facts in order to have an eligible appeal. Participants of these meetings were also judges and prosecutors from the State Prosecution Office, representatives from Municipal Electoral Commission, as well as representatives from local non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Institutional representatives pledged that on the elections day they will be engaged with all of their capacities in order to maintain a correct and fair electoral process.

June 7th in Prizren;
June 8th in Gilan;

June 9th in Prishtina and Gracanica.
