How close are our media to European standards?

08.07.2025

During the #MediaTalkDay conference, the report “Bridging the Gap” was presented, an in-depth analysis of the gaps between media practices in Kosovo and European standards for real time fact-checking and reporting.

Key findings from the report:

Most media outlets do not publish editorial guidelines or fact-checking methodologies – creating a lack of transparency and trustworthiness towards the public.

In the discussion panel that followed the presentation, it was emphasized that:

Online media depends on clicks and advertising
Lack of resources makes it impossible to hire staff for real-time fact-checking
Accurate and verified news is expensive, and this challenge directly affects the quality of reporting
This does not always happen for bad intentions – but often due to a lack of capacity and proper support.

This event is carried out with the support of the “Support to civil society in Kosovo” project, funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and implemented by LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency.
