How inclusive were the 2025 local elections for women candidates?

Women made up only 10% of mayoral candidates, and just one woman succeeded in winning office. In more than half of Kosovo’s municipalities, not a single woman ran for mayor.

These and other findings on gender representation in the 2025 local and national elections were presented in the report “Analysis of the Results of the 2025 Local and National Elections from a Gender Perspective”, prepared within the framework of the project “She Leads: Combating Hate Speech and Promoting Women in Local Leadership”, supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kosovo
