Breast cancer awareness, earlier diagnosis and what needs to be done further, were some of the discussions at the Tuesday’s salon that was held today with the main topic: why has society stagnated in breast cancer awareness? And how many are informed after diagnosis?

Panelists for today were: Izet Sadiku, Director of Health in the Municipality of Prishtina, Diana Pirana, breast cancer survivor, and Arben Bislimi, Chairman of the Association of the Oncologists of Kosovo. Whereas this salon was moderated by Bujar Vitia, Editor-in-chief at Shneta Newspaper, who will also write the editorial for this topic.

During the discussion, Izet Sadiku, Director of Health in the Municipality of Prishtina, has shown they are trying to raise awareness for this disease especially during this month, because it is one of the most malignant and dangerous ones for women. Municipality of Prishtina has increased the number of mammograms, by the beginning of november we will have the third mammogram in Prishtina and from the December 1st mammograms will be free for women in Prishtina, and we will subsidize prostheses for women who are diagnosed with breast cancer.

While Diana Pirana, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, said that unless others face this process, they will never know the pain people who are diagnosed go through, however, now that she is cancer free, her desire and will to move forward gave her strength to also be in contact with many other women who she helped with her advices. Awareness during October was massive, but she appealed for this awareness to continue every single month.

On the other hand, Arben Bislimi, Chairman of the Association of the Oncologists of Kosovo, said that Kosovo has progressed by talking freerly and raising awareness through lectures and discussions all over Kosovo, however, the situation has not progressed in some remote areas where technology is not developed and do not know how to detect it, and if the detection is in early stages then the cure process is faster.
