“To what extent are the Municipal Assembly councilors the voice of the citizens in the Assembly? This was the topic discussed last week in the Tuesday salon.

Invited to the panel to discuss this topic were: Drita Pajaziti, Municipal Assembly councilor from LVV; Arjant Topanica, Municipal Assembly councilor from LDK; and Shemsi Jashari, Civil Society activist. The salon was moderated by Genc Rashiti, Chief Executive Officer at EDU Courses.

During this discussion, the impact of the Municipal Assembly councilors in representing the interests of citizens in the assembly was emphasized. The Law on Local Self-Government, with its definition of the rights and duties of the municipal councilors, has made the representation of the citizens’ voice essential. As a drawback, the lack of communication between councilors and citizens was highlighted, along with an emphasis on increasing initiatives to address this issue and solve challenges by creating mechanisms for transparency, education, public transport, and gender equality.

The salon was organised by The Democracy for Development Institute within the framework of the project “Citizen participation 4 better decisions”, supported by the Small Grant Facility programme of WeBER 3.0 project, implemented in Kosovo by Group for Legal and Political Studies and funded by the European Union and the Austrian Development Agency.
