What opportunities does the private sector offer to support working mothers?

22.10.2019

The labor market in Kosovo is dominated by more male than female workers. Also, a challenge for women is that they complete their studies and are capable of finding a job, but they are forced on occasion to break away from their careers in order to raise their children. Therefore, the private sector should advocate more on opening new kindergartens as this would create new jobs for women and at the same time would facilitate mothers’ career development. These were some of the highlights of Tuesday’s Salon: “What opportunities does the private sector offer to support working mothers?”

Recommendation from participants and panelists was to advocate for improved parental leave for men as well, emphasizing that there should be done a lot of work at the institutional level to achieve balance of employment between the two sexes and at the same time to work more to empower women in the workplace. in order to ensure their greater engagement in the labor market.

Part of the panel in this salon were: Murat Sahin, Head of Office, UNICEF Kosovo; Mergim Cahani, Founder and CEO, Gjirafa.com as well as Aferdita Gashi, HR and Finance Manager, IQ to Link. The salon was moderated by Albana Morina Xharra, Owner and Manager, Carto Pinto.
