12.06.2024

Yesterday’s Tuesday Salon in Peja: “Identification of shortcomings and challenges in current approaches: Prevention and local support in combating femicide and protecting women against abuse.”

We were joined by: Shkodran Nikçi, Deputy of the Basic Prosecution in Peja, Albulena Mujaj Bajraktaraj, Director of Social Welfare Directorate at Municipality of Peja and Ardita Bala, Director of Women Wellness Center.

During this discussion the panellists revealed when physical abuse victims share their stories unspoken victims were more willing to report their cases, breaking the stigma against domestic violence. The norms of the patriarchal mindset perpetuate this violence. Peja’s efforts to prioritize these cases has increased trust with the public. The discussion also explored the importance of awareness campaigns in schools; campaigns in schools; campaigns to increase media responsibility; better cooperation with the police; role of prosecution and courts; and finally, better cooperation between civil societies and institutions.

This salon was organized with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.
