D4D yesterday held its Tuesday Salon this time with the topic:In tension: How does rising energy prices affect the country’s economy? How to balance the need for energy sustainability with affordability for the citizens of Kosovo?
The invited panelists were: Blendi Hasaj, Executive Director of the GAP Institute, Xhevat Kastrati, co-founder of the Kosova Boycott initiative, and Albulena Kadriu, Women in Energy and Mining (WEM).
During the discussion, it was emphasized that product prices in Kosovo have increased even before the decision to increase electricity tariffs came into effect, demonstrating an immediate reaction from citizens. In addition, the lack of political will to push forward the energy transition and the use of natural resources was also mentioned as an issue in Kosovo
Another concern was the difficulties that may be caused to local producers by the increase in electricity prices, and the fact that we need to protect the few manufacturing industries that we have was mentioned.
This salon is organized with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Prishtina Office.
