Conditions and possibilities for reopening kindergartens and schools

05.06.2020

On Tuesday, June 2, the Salon on the topic: “Conditions and possibilities for reopening kindergartens and schools” was held.

The pandemic has found Kosovo unprepared, as well as other countries. As a result of the COVID-19 virus, some decisions have been made to close education institutions at all levels. This period has been very challenging for everyone but especially for parents who became educators of their children. Now we already have the decision to reopen the kindergartens and the Ministry of Education has come out with an explanation for the educational institutions at the national level that during this week only the kindergartens that are ready will start working.

During this discussion it was emphasized that the Ministry of Education has distributed a guide to educational institutions and Municipal Directorates of Education which gives recommendations for the reopening of preschool institutions. Part of the guide will also be the possibility of carrying out outdoor activities so that children avoid staying indoors as much as possible.

One concern that was discussed during this Salon was the lack of coordination between the Ministry of Education and the Municipal Directorates of Education, therefore it was mentioned that there was a healthy cooperation between them and a platform was created so that children could continue learning from home.

Now that the kindergartens have been reopened, the panel recommended that the activities which will be organized should be related to the adaptation of children, so we must be careful in the house-kindergartens transition which should be as easy as possible for children.

Part of the panel in this salon were: Laberi Luzha, Head of the Preschool Education Division, Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation and Arlinda Beka, Professor at the Faculty of Education, University of Prishtina. The salon was moderated and the editorial will be written by Elira Hashani, MA in Education Policy.

This Salon was supported by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Prishtina Office.
