Stakeholder Meetings in the Municipality of Prizren – Case Study: Gorozhup

16.10.2025

As part of the ongoing work on the factsheets, the group is holding regular meetings with local stakeholders and representatives of institutions in the Municipality of Prizren.

During the meetings, the main findings from the case study in the village of Gorozhup were presented, highlighting the many challenges affecting the quality of life of women and families in rural areas. The lack of regular public transport and preschool institutions remains among the main factors limiting women’s employment opportunities and equal participation in economic and social life.

In the village of Gorozhup, which has around 300 inhabitants, only a small number of women are formally employed, while the majority contribute to the household economy through agriculture and food processing. Residents emphasize that the lack of transport and childcare services are the main obstacles limiting their opportunities for work or education.

Discussions focused on the most effective ways to implement the recommendations included in the factsheet, aiming for them to serve as practical guidelines for local and central institutions. Among the most highlighted measures are:

  • subsidizing public transport, and
  • opening preschools in rural areas, which would contribute to increasing women’s employment, improving access to education, and preventing rural displacement.

This process is being carried out within the framework of the project “Decision-making through dialogue: Improving rural life through stakeholder advocacy,” implemented by D4D with the support of the regional project SMART Balkans.
