Monitoring of Online News Portals during the 2025 Local Election Campaign – Week Four

10.10.2025

Democracy for Development (D4D) carried out online media monitoring during the 2025 local election campaign, from October 4–10, through the Pikasa platform. The monitoring focused on how candidates and political parties were represented in the digital space, as well as on the presence of hate speech in online comments.

The results show that Vetëvendosje (LVV) received the highest number of hate speech comments (532), followed by PDK (203), LDK (183), Serbian List (134) and AAK (84). Among the mayoral candidates, the most mentioned in the media were Uran Ismaili (716 articles), Përparim Rama (605 articles), and Alban Hyseni (269 articles), marking the highest level of media coverage for candidates during one week of the campaign.

In addition, the monitoring revealed a clear difference in media coverage between male and female candidates for mayor. Besa Shahini (125 articles), Emilija Redžepi (101 articles), and Xhevahire Izmaku (32 articles) had fewer mentions compared to male candidates. However, unlike previous weeks, the final week of the campaign showed a noticeable increase in the number of articles dedicated to women candidates.
