“Pride Week: How present is the language of hatred towards the LGBTIQ+ community during awareness-raising activities?” Yesterday’s Tuesday Salon topic.

The panelists joining D4D’s discussion: Luljeta Demolli, Executive Director at the Kosovar Center for Gender Studies; Blendë Pira, Legal Researcher and Program Coordinator at the Youth Initiative for Human Rights and Diellza Mehmeti, Communication Officer at the Center for the Development of Social Groups.

Meanwhile, the salon was moderated by Adelina Ahmeti, Journalist at Kallxo.com.

The importance of educating society, and staying informed were discussed to identify hate speech. Even in the online media and on the platforms that organize the week of pride, hate speech has always been present. Many portals do not know what constitutes hate speech and the consequences it brings. Panelists discussed how activists are the most exposed to hate speech on a regular basis. Social networks have not yet established a regulatory mechanism against degrading comments, and there is no law yet to protect individuals from online attacks.

This salon is organized with the financial support of the European Union within the project “Combating Discrimination, Hate Speech and Gender-Based Violence”. The content of this publication is the responsibility of ATRC, IKS and D4D and in no way can be considered as the position of the European Union.
