Ensuring Integrity: Verification of Facts in the Justice System in an era of media misinformation

The Tuesday Salon was held with the topic: “Ensuring Integrity: Verification of Facts in the Justice System in an era of media misinformation”, this time in the Municipality of Mitrovica, within the framework of the USAID Kosovo Justice Activity in Kosovo.

 

Invited to the panel to discuss this topic were: Hateme Haxhaj, Office for information and communication with the Media – Basic Court, Mitrovice; Egzona Rexha Shala, Legal Officer and Lawyer and Majlinda Jashari, Journalist. Whereas the salon was moderated by Urall Boshnjaku, Journalist at Mitropol.

During this discussion, the influence of the media on judicial processes was emphasized, noting that it can often be negative by affecting the course of the proceedings. The importance of cooperation between the media and the justice system was also highlighted. In some cases, access to documents is restricted, making it difficult to verify facts. Additionally, there are instances where judges are reluctant to allow journalists to attend court sessions.
