Electoral reform: Will we have the same scenario?

08.11.2016 D4D

Tuesday’s Salon was held on November 8 with the topic: Election Reform: Will we have the same scenario?

The informative and provocative opening was made by: Albert Krasniqi, KDI researcher where he said that in Kosovo the revision of the election legal framework is mainly done after a political crisis or pressure from abroad, and not as a natural necessity to address lessons or intentions. Shqipe Mjekiqi, Senior Political Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs, stressed that the history of electoral reforms in Kosovo recognizes two big wins of voters: opening lists of candidates for political entities as well as direct voting of the mayors. Arben Qirezi, political lecturer, mentioned that Kosovo’s reform debate dominates topics such as whether it’s time or not, many electoral areas or one electoral zone, open or closed electoral lists, gender and ethnic or non-quota quotas, and other topics that go beyond electoral legislation.

The moderation of this salon was made by Mjellma Hapçiu-Alijaj, senior researcher at D4D, while the editorial was written by Ylber Buleshkaj, an expert on elections.

This salon is organized in collaboration with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES).
