Following the successful signing of the Code of Conduct for the Responsible Use of Social Media in the 2025 Local Elections, D4D will carry out manual monitoring of the social media accounts of mayoral and municipal assembly candidates from the municipalities included in the process.
Monitoring will take place daily and will include the collection of factual cases through links and screenshots, in case a candidate’s post is later deleted.
The monitoring covers the main platforms of political communication: Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, YouTube channels of mayoral candidates, as well as online news portals.
D4D has built strong experience in facilitating the development and implementation of the Code of Conduct for political communication in the digital space during electoral processes, contributing to transparency, accountability, and protection against abusive online practices.
The monitoring includes 14 municipalities, with a total of 95 mayoral candidates (80 men and 15 women) and 2,691 municipal assembly candidates (1,666 men and 1,025 women).
This infographic presents the period 1–12 September, during which 52 cases were identified, including:
🛑 hate speech, ❌ disinformation, 💬 bullying, 🚨 incitement to violence, 👎 sexism & misogyny.
Democracy for Development (D4D) monitors daily the main platforms to ensure a fairer and more inclusive campaign.
