On February 15, the Tuesday Salon was held with the topic: “Inactive or informal: where is the problem of the integration of women in the labor market?”

Part of the panel in this salon were: Eliza Hoxha, member of the Commission for Human Rights and Gender Equality, Adnan Ahmeti, official of the Office of Strategic Planning and Ardiana Gashi, professor at the Faculty of Economics. The moderator of this salon was Dafina Lata, a journalist and a moderator at Klan Kosova, who also wrote the editorial of this discussion.

The panel discussion was mainly focused on the challenges that women have in the labor market as well as their inactivity. During the discussion legal issues and the issue of law non-implementation were raised.

According to the deputy Hoxha, women are left behind in the labor market, they are not supported for this matter and although the law allows it, they still do not have property rights like men do. She stated that, although women are stigmatized, their position in Kosovo is improving, considering the fact that the government is organizing many activities and building a work strategy regarding this issue. Finally, she concluded that more work is needed to be done, especially in areas which are related to women and their position in society.

Mr. Ahmeti, who is working on the strategic planning of laws regarding women, stated that developed countries and the implementation of their policies and activities should be taken as an example for Kosovo. He stated that women should be represented based on their merits, however, their inactivity in Kosovo is around 50 per cent, which is considered a high number.

As for professor Gashi, he work and the legislative strategy is planned quite well, however the problem stands in its implementation. Accroding to her
