On March 8, the topic of the Salon was: How can women rescue Kosovo’s languishing economy?

Opening remarks were delivered by: Mimoza Kusari-Lila, Mayor of Gjakova, Ardiana Gashi, Consultant at the World Bank, Kosovo, Sigrid Meijer, Project Manager PPSE and Kosovo Country Director Swisscontact, Lindita Baleta, Social Inclusion & Communications Specialist USAID EMPOWER Private Sector. Mimoza Kusari Lila stressed that women should not be limited to university education, but they should also be oriented towards technical and creative fields, which can lead to successful entrepreneurship. In addition Mrs. Kusari-Lila said that financial schemes issued to women entrepreneurs should be at least twice more than the percentage of women representation. On the other hand, three other panelists: Ardiana Gashi, Sigrid Meijer, and Lindita Baleta agreed that the main barriers for the low number of women participation in the labor market are: traditions and gender stereotypes.

The Salon was moderated by Visar Sutaj, Project Coordinator/Researcher, KDI, and the op-ed was written by Edona Kurtolli, Communication Specialist Swisscontact.
