Which factors continue to keep women in-active in the labor market?

On 7th of February the Tuesday Salon was held under the topic: “Which factors continue to keep women in-active in the labor market?”

On opening remarks Nora Latifi-Jashari, Executive Director of GAP Institute, stressed that the process of employment in public institutions and businesses are discriminating on gender bases. Since they consider that the administrative assistant position should be a woman while secretary general should be a man. Florina Duli, Executive Director of the Kosovar Stability Initiative, said the women because of the idea that they are the ones responsible for their children and family they become in-active and do not look for work. Also young women which are planning a family because of the maternity leave they decide not to be active. Arian Zeka, Executive Director of American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo mentioned the Labour Law with its implementing provisions have allowed room for discrimination against women in employment in collective contacts. On connection for what Mrs. Duli stated, Mr. Zeka continued that usually for women in businesses, they receive short-term contracts comparing to men.

The salon was moderated by Asdren Xërxa, Program Manager, CEED- Kosovo, and the op-ed was written by Rezarta Delibashzade, Project Manager, D4D Institute.
