Roundtable in Gjilan: Electoral Justice in the Elections of June 11th

Today, on June 8, the D4D Institute in partnership with Democracy in Action (DiA) held the fifth roundtable in Gjilan region with the topic “Electoral Justice in the Elections of June 11th”. Part of the panel at this roundtable were Mr. Atdhe Dema from the State Prosecution, Mr. Vllaznim Surdulli from Kosovo Police, Mr. Naser Maliqi, Judge at the Basic Court in Gjilan, Mr. Xhemail Peqani from the Central Election Commission and Zyhdi Haziri from the Panel Election Complaints and Appeals. Invited to this roundtable were also the civil society organizations in the region of Gjilan and members of the Municipal Election Commission.

Prosecutor Atdhe Dema spoke about the role of the prosecution in the electoral process, explaining the Standard Voting Procedures, including photographing the vote and other criminal offenses set forth in the Criminal Code. Prosecutor Dema said that on the Election Day 100 prosecutors will be engaged. Mr. Surdulli from Kosovo Police stressed the importance of the engagement of Kosovo Police mobile teams during the electoral process and Election Day, highlighting the coordination within the Kosovo Police.
Naser Maliqi from the Gjilan Basic Court presented the number of cases pertaining to the criminal offenses regarding electoral crimes, whereas Mr. Haziri presented the procedure of submitting complaints to ECAP. In the end, Mr. Xhemail Peqani from the CEC told about the work of the CEC secretariat by citing the number of polling stations in the Gjilan region and coordination with justice institutions and investigators to prevent any kind of irregularity on Election Day.
