02.12.2020

On November 30, the Youth Salon with the topic: “Youth sector in times of pandemic: What are the demands of young people in the Municipality of Peja?” was held. Part of the panel in this Salon were: Gazmend Muhaxheri, Mayor, Municipality of Peja, Xhenet Syka – Kelmendi, Director, Directorate of Culture, Youth and Sports, Municipality of Peja and Jeta Nushi Sheremeti, Head of Sector for Youth, Municipality of Peja.

Mr. Gazmend Muhaxheri, Mayor of Peja started the discussion by revealing the support of the Municipality for the youth of Peja. The youth of this municipality are financially supported based on the budget allocated in advance for the youth activities of the youth centers, culture and sports, but added that this support is always insufficient and that each local government should improve this area as the youth are the future of the workforce and development of their municipality.

Mrs. Xhenet Syla – Kelmendi talked to the panelists and participants about this year’s challenges. Covid-19 as an unpredictable event has diverted youth activities that have been planned by the Directorate of Culture, Youth and Sports of the Municipality of Peja, taking into account the isolation that citizens had during the spring, some time in the summer season, and again in current time. DKRS has not been able to make the activities smooth but has always kept the doors open to support youth associations. Some of the activities that took place during the pandemic were carried out in a virtual form, such as the 11th edition of the festival “Anibar”, which was supported by the Municipality of Peja.

Mrs. Jeta Nushi – Sheremeti informed the participants that the Youth Sector of the Municipality of Peja is a partner of the Street Art project of the European Union which started in November 2019 and will end at the end of 2021. The implementation of this project began in January 2020, but the state health circumstances and the measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo caused the project to stagnate, and all activities that should be physically maintained were carried out through online platforms. All other plans of the Youth Sector have been canceled, as a result of which a research has been done on how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the health and physical condition of young people, how it has affected isolation and finally the research has presented recommendations which will used in the future to plan activities for 2021.

The moderation of this Salon was realized by Dionis Kollçaku, President, KVRL – Peja, from which the editorial will be written.
