Parental Leave for Gender Equality: Swedish and Kosovan Dads

27.05.2019

Parental leave is a right conceived as a parent’s opportunity to be dedicated to the child during growth. In order to discuss this topic, Democracy for Development Institute (D4D) held the salon: “Parental Leave for Gender Equality: Swedish and Kosovan dads”.

The importance of sharing the obligations within the family which would result in the fulfillment of each parent’s duties towards his/her child was emphasized during the discussion. It was also stressed that the existence of policies and legislation that serves the needs of the family – equally to mothers and fathers – is a prerequisite for gender equality in society and the family. Kosovan and Swedish parents discussed the challenges and benefits that parental leave brings for families.

Part of the panel in this salon were: Martin Schyllert, Swedish dad and Veton Kastrati, Kosovan dad.

This salon was organized as part of the project “Swedish and Kosovan Dads”, a collaboration between the Embassy of Sweeden in Prishtina, Democracy for Development Institute, Olof Palme International Center and NGO SIT.
