Kosovo’s path to EU membership: Two scenarios for Kosovo

On Tuesday, October 6, 2020, D4D organized the salon discussion on the topic: “Kosovo’s path to EU membership: Two scenarios for Kosovo” Part of the panel were: Teuta Sahatqija, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora and Demush Shasha, Executive Director, EPIK Institute.

During the discussion, the roadmap for Kosovo’s membership in the European Union was presented based on two scenarios: optimistic and pessimistic. The author of the roadmap, Mr. Demush Shasha, presented the key points of the roadmap based on Kosovo’s political and socio-economic developments and other implications such as the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia; the funcionality of the Specialist Court and the lack of recognition of Kosovo’s independence from five EU member states.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Teuta Sahatqija, spoke about Kosovo’s progress towards EU membership as well as the implemented and unimplemented priorities in the framework of the Stabilization and Association Agreement. In addition, she talked about the regional political context and elaborated on the importance of integrating the Western Balkans into the EU in the near future.

This salon discussion was moderated by Visar Xhambazi, Policy Researcher, Democracy for Development while the Op-Ed will be written by Ngadhnjim Avdyli, Journalist at Kosovo 2.0
