The impact of COVID-19 in women employment in Kosovo: Who is paying the highest price?

Women’s inactivity and unemployment continue to be among the most worrying percentages in the labor market even during the pandemic. This was one of the key points that was discussed in Tuesday’s salon which also answered the question of this salon “Who is paying the highest price?” on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on employment.

During the discussion, the panelists mentioned the challenges that women are facing for employment, job instability, the reasons why women are not active in the labor market, support from the employment agency and the sectors that have suffered the most from March of this year when the pandemic started to spread in Kosovo.

Part of this discussion was dedicated to the comparison of the labor market in the countries of the region such as Albania, Serbia, Northern Macedonia and Montenegro, where the data of the Statistics Agency of these countries show that women have the highest unemployment and that Kosovo has the highest rate among them.

Part of this panel were Ms. Mimoza Kusari Lila, Chair of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee regarding the management of the “COVID-I9” pandemic by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Shpetim Kalludra, Director of the Labor Market Department, Employment Agency of the Republic of Kosovo and Mrs. Judita Krasniqi, Gender Expert. The salon was moderated by Mrs. Linda Abazi Morina, consultant. While the editorial of this salon will be written by Mrs. Raba Gjoshi, Project Manager, Democracy Institute for Development.
