Empowering Women in Politics: How much space do political subjects provide to them?

04.03.2020

What are the challenges for women in the political processes? Is there a need for change and how much support is being offered to them? These were some of the points discussed during Tuesday’s salon: “Empowering Women in Politics: How much space do political subjects provide to them?”.

Women still face various challenges in terms of their involvement in political processes. During this discussion, it was emphasized that political subjects still do not provide enough space for women and this results in them by not having a deserved position. Women still face various challenges such as sexist language towards them, inappropriate social reaction and lack of support for them to be part of these processes. On the other hand, men’s interest for this topic still remains low. Despite these challenges, the positive trend on women’s empowerment was also highlighted, which results from the advance of public confidence in what women present.

Part of the panel in this Salon were: Ismet Kryeziu, Executive Director, Kosova Democratic Institute; Blerta Deliu-Kodra, Head of Department for Gender Issues, The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and Visare Gorani, Member of Municipal Assembly of Prishtina (PSD). The Salon was moderated by Blerine Ukshini, Project Coordinator, Democracy for Development (D4D).

This Salon was organized within the framework of the project “Beyond numerical party: Empowerment of women assembly members in local governance” which is supported under the Equality Engagement Program – E4E, financed by the United States Agency for International Development – USAID and supported by the Advocacy Training and Resource Center – ATRC.
