Democracy for Development Institute (D4D) is implementing the project “Beyond numerical parity: Empowerment of women assembly members in local governance”. The project aims at strengthening advocacy and active women’s participation in political processes, with a particular focus on women members of Municipal Assemblies in local governance.

Within the framework of this project, during October meetings were held with members of informal groups of women councilors at municipal assemblies in Prishtina, Prizren, Mitrovica, Istog and Kamenica. During these meetings were discussed some of the key activities that will be undertaken in a period of one year within the project framework, thus coordinating the joint attepts in strengthening the women in local governance.

In these meetings, key issues with which women struggle in these municipalities were highlighted, as well as topics and concrete initiatives were discussed which could be used to advocate at the local level.

The D4D Institute will continue to work closely with young women who aspire to become politically involved in political parties as well as women who are already part of the Municipal Assemblies, thus continuing to contribute to build their capacities.

This project is supported under the Equality Engagement Program – E4E, financed by the United States Agency for International Development – USAID and supported by the Advocacy Training and Resource Center – ATRC.
