Shared parental leave: Are men willing to share this responsibility?

11.07.2017 D4D

On Tuesday 11th of July 2017, the Tuesday Salon was held in Ferizaj on the topic: “Shared parental leave: Are men willing to share this responsibility?”

Informative and provocative opening was made by: Armend Pajaziti, a business representative who said that most Kosovar businesses are individual businesses  who only generate incomes for the close family . As a result, it is impossible for them to offer paid parental leave because they have enough incomes to hire someone else. Lirika Demiri, sociologist stressed the importance of adopting social policies that automatically contribute to gender equality. This is because by drafting proper laws we give the opportunity to men to participate equally with women in raising children. Kushtrim Palushi, Lawyer in Ramaj & Palushi LLC, stated that the law allows the division of maternity leave with the husband by an agreement. But, due to the fact that it is legitimate for interpretation, the employer states that maternity leave belongs to women only, while men have only two days paid for parental leave.

This salon was moderated by Valentina Abazi, INPO.

The editorial for this salon is written in the Albanian language and it can be read here.

This salon is being organized as part of the project “Shared Parental Leave in Kosovo”, implemented by Democracy for Development from Pristina, financed by the Olof Palme International Centre and supported by Swedish Government.
