Do existing mechanisms provide reintegration opportunities for returnees?

On Thursday, December 14, 2017, Salon in Ferizaj was held with the topic: “Do existing mechanisms provide reintegration opportunities for returnees?”

Information opening was made by: Xhevahire Dervishi – Rexhepi, Coordinator for Sustainable Returns, Municipality of Ferizaj and Plator Avdiu, researcher, Kosovar Center for Security Studies. Panelists and participants see migration waves as a multidimensional problem but mostly caused by the lack of economic development. In the absence of governmental strategies for the development of the private sector, which is the main generator of job creation, causes loss of trust in institutions and consequently loss of hope. Returned people are faced with a lack of adequate reintegration strategies that disable direct access to the labor market. Although there is a fund for returnees, the fund which is given to open small businesses for these people still lacks proper management of funds. During the discussion it was recommended that the amount for return funds be increased because the amount provided by the MIA is too small for business sustainability and also strategies are not ad-hoc but more inclusive and more forward-looking.

This salon was moderated by Arbenita Topalli, project manager at INPO, and the editorial was written by Albion Sherifi.

This Salon is supported by GIZ.
