Does the education system, including professional education, match the labour market’s demand?

04.12.2018

The link between the education system and vocational training with the culture of our society as a need was one of the issues raised for discussion at the Tuesday Salon organized by the Democracy for Development Institute (D4D) on December 04, 2018 in the Municipality of Prishtina.

The focus of this discussion was on the topic: “Does the education system, including professional education, match the labour market’s demand?”, whereas opening remarks were delivered by: Petrit Beqiri, Executive Director, Heimerer College; Valbona Fetiu-Mjeku, Chief of Division for Education and Professional skills and higher education, Ministry of Education; Visar Hoxha, Project Manager – Legal Officer, High Professional School, “Loyola-Gymnasium”.

As a problem raised during the discussion was also the higher education, or more specifically the lack of practices at this level of education. The panellists and participants agreed that a common student in Kosovo lacks practice, and it is often concluded that the same student is better prepared in theory, with respect to a particular profession.

Moreover, the question on how professional training affects the labour market demands directly was specified as a matter of discussion, where based on the statistics that we presently have, professional training and current demand of the labor market do not match one another.

The salon was moderated by Valëza Mjeku, Project Manager, EdGuard Institute, while editorial will be written by Kushtrim Bajrami, Project Manager, Kosovo Education Center (KEC).
