Salon with Mayor candidates for Municipality of Prishtina was held on 10th of October 2017 with the topic: “What do candidates offer for youth?”
Opening remarks were delivered by: Arbër Vllahiu, Alliance for the future of Kosovo – AAK; Lirak Çelaj, Democratic Party of Kosovo – PDK Rifat Deri – Alternativa and Selim Pacolli – New Allaince for Kosovo. Candidates presented their political programs which did not have enormous and unenforceable promises, but these programs did not directly addressed the problems of young people. During the discussion, many questions were raised about the unused public spaces and how they could be used by young people. But none of the candidates could name a single space and on how to redesign for youth to use it for their needs. It was also presented the idea of restoring the Palace of Youth under the management of the Municipality and creating recreation facilities for young people. Yet these programs do not provide opportunities for solving the problems of young people because the programs are written in general terms.
The salon was moderated by Mjellma Hapçiu-Alijaj, Senior Researcher, D4D Institute and op-ed was written by Drinas Zeqiraj.
