“Reforma” Forum of Civil Society for a genuine electoral reform

10.02.2014

For more than two years, “Reforma” Forum has worked in preparing the proposition about the electoral system reform. Some of our earlier recommendations were accepted by the Commission for Electoral Reform and are included in the draft-law. Now that the electoral reform is again in the process, although a bit swiftly, there is a chance to advocate another set of proposes that didn’t go through last time. The forum uses this chance to deliver the recommendations listed below to the Commission for Legislation hoping that these recommendations will be taken into consideration this time around. Civil Society persistently is trying to protect open lists because this way the voter has a decision-making power and a chance to vote for their preferred representatives. Closing the electoral lists would strip the citizens from their decision-making power, thus shifting it in the hands of the party leader, which means taking a step back. The Forum thinks that the electoral reform should be as substantial as possible, although the deadline makes it harder for some processes that require time.
